NBWI - New Brunswick Women's Institute


The New Brunswick Women's Institute grants 9 scholarships yearly. The five categories are listed below.

For the first four categories there are regulations to follow and an application form to fill out.

A yearly N.B.W.I. scholarship of $500.00 may be awarded to a first-year student enrolled in a degree course at U.N.B., Fredericton, N.B. with preference given to a student graduating from a N.B. High School, and having a record of community services. This scholarship will be paid upon notification of enrollment at the University.

An annual scholarship of $250.00 to be awarded to a student beginning the first year of the concurrent degree program in the Faculty of Education at the University of New Brunswick, Fredericton, N.B. This scholarship will be paid upon notification of enrollment at the University. The programs involved in the concurrent degree are:

  • Bachelor of Arts
  • Bachelor of Science
  • Bachelor of Physical Education
  • Bachelor of Computer Science
  • Bachelor of Business Administration

Five scholarships at a value of $300.00 each may be awarded annually to five students to be used for any educational purpose, the purpose to be subject to the will of the Committee. These scholarships will be paid upon notification of enrollment in the selected courses.

An annual scholarship of $300.00 value may be awarded to a student enrolled at an accredited college to further their studies in music. Payment will be made to recipient upon notification.

Value: $300.00 Established in 1978, this scholarship is awarded to a Women's Institute Member who wishes to further or upgrade her education or skills. For this scholarship only, there is no need to fill out an application form. Go to the page NBWI Women's Scholarship for WI Members

| How to Apply for the NBWI Member's Scholarship |

  • NBWI provides nine (9) different academic scholarships annually NBWI offers sessions on various topics such as environmental concerns, women’s rights, health education, legal issues, family violence and many other subjects.
  • NBWI maintains and operates the WI Home for Senior Ladies. This home established in 1952, is the only one like it in Canada and offers a cozy home atmosphere for senior women.
  • NBWI offers education to members during conventions at the district and provincial level.
  • NBWI supports the crew of HMCS Fredericton with their annual Bike for Wishes fund raising event, providing meals for the bikers, refreshments along the way and attending the rallies.
  • NBWI lobbies governments and other agencies regarding changes and reforms to improve family and community life.
